The Long Beach Convention Center opens today to “The Women’s Conference 2009.” The event has grown in each of its 20-plus years.

The event used to be called “The California Governor and First Lady’s Conference on Women.” Arnold Schwarzenegger and his wife, Maria Shriver, will not only be on hand, but will take part in panel discussions.

The governor joins FDIC Chairwoman Sheila Bair and The Virgin Group’s Sir Richard Branson on “Tough Leadership Decisions in Tough Times.” Shriver hosts a discussion on “Grief, Healing, and Resilience” with actress Susan Saint James and Elizabeth Edwards.

U.S.Airways pilot Sully Sullenberger, who became a national hero when he landed a jet on the Hudson River, takes part in a discussion on “Profiles of Inspiration.” Former secretary of state, Madeleine Albright, joins a panel discussion on “How A Woman’s Nation Changes Everything.”

Albright, Sullenburger, and primatologist Jane Goodall, who’s one of the Minerva Award winners, are also guests on today’s AirTalk with Larry Mantle.
