Trucks crash, spill fruit on 5 freeway, causing traffic jam

Two trucks crashed on the southbound Golden State (5) Freeway in the Stevenson Ranch area this morning, with one spilling a load of pomegranates. The accident caused a huge rush-hour traffic jam for vehicles headed toward Los Angeles.

The crash occurred just north of the 5's junction with the Antelope Valley (14) Freeway at about 3:40 a.m., said Officer Patrick Kimball of the California Highway Patrol.

The truck hauling the fruit dumped its load of boxed pomegranates on the freeway. The boxes ruptured, and so did some of the fruit, a camera crew reported fromthee scene.
