Flight service to Mammoth Mountain resumes

Horizon Air's winter service to Mammoth Mountain resumed today, carrying passengers from Los Angeles to the Sierra resort.

Two daily flights from Los Angeles International Airport will be offered through April 11.

Also today, the airline began daily nonstop service to Mammoth from San Jose and Reno and direct — same-plane, one-stop — service from Seattle and Portland, also to continue through the ski season.

"With El Nino expected to provide one of the best snow seasons ever, the timing couldn't be better," said Rusty Gregory, chief executive of the resort.

Last year was the inaugural season for Horizon's 70-minute flights from Los Angeles to Mammoth, which is about a five- to six-hour drive from the Southland.

Mammoth Mountain is about 15 minutes from the airport.

Fares start at $69 each way from Los Angeles. Tickets can be purchased at or by calling (800) 547-9308.
