High school teacher Christopher Ontiveros was arraigned today for sexual acts with a 17-year-old female high school student.
Ontiveros is accused of using his position as a history teacher at Oxford Academy in Cypress to develop a personal relationship with a female student, according to the Orange County District Attorney's Office. He allegedly made unsolicited sexual advances.
Between June and September 2009, Ontiveros allegedly sent sexual text messages and engaged in sexual acts with the girl in his classroom and his car. The girl's mother discovered the text messages on her daughter's cell phone and contacted police.
If convicted, Ontiveros faces a maximum sentence of six years in state prison. He has been released from custody on $100,000 bail and is scheduled for a pre-trial hearing on Feb. 11.
