A trade journal for the news business got an eleventh-hour reprieve after its previous owner announced it would close. KPCC’s Cheryl Devall says an Irvine-based publishing company is the new buyer.
For more than a century, people in the newspaper and magazine business relied on Editor & Publisher to follow trends in their trade. But in recent years, the authoritative journal experienced the same troubles as the industry it covered — declining advertising revenue and a sluggish economy.
The magazine’s owner decided last month to close it and other titles, but Duncan McIntosh Company of Irvine stepped in to buy it. McIntosh publishes boating magazines and newspapers and sponsors the Newport Boat Show and the Lido Yacht Expo in Newport Beach.
McIntosh – a longtime reader of Editor and Publisher, said in a statement that he knew he wanted to keep the magazine and its affiliated website and blogs afloat. The parties didn’t disclose the terms of the deal. The online sites resumed immediately after the sale, and the print version will publish an edition next month.
