1 dead, 1 wounded in gang shooting in North Hollywood

NORTH HOLLYWOOD - Gunfire in a suspected gang shooting left one man dead and another wounded in North Hollywood, a police lieutenant said today.

The double shooting was reported about 10:30 p.m. Saturday in the 1200 block of Califa Avenue, said Lt. Brian Wendling of the Los Angeles Police Department's North Hollywood Station.

''It seems as though the victims were strolling through the neighborhood of a rival gang and got ambushed,'' Wendling said.

One victim was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead a short time later.

The other victim ''showed up later at the hospital,'' Wendling said.

The deceased victim's name was withheld pending notification of next of kin.

The LAPD'S gang unit was investigating the shooting.
