LA County to activists: Condoms can't be required

Los Angeles County health officials say they can't require porn actors to wear condoms during shoots because it would be too difficult to police.

In remarks to the county Board of Supervisors on Tuesday, public health director Dr. Jonathan Fielding says adult film production companies require little more than a camera and a bed for a shoot, making porn sets nearly impossible to regulate.

The Los Angeles-based AIDS Healthcare Foundation has called on county officials and state officials to curb sexually transmitted disease in porn actors by requiring condom use.

A court order filed by the foundation to compel county health to require condoms was dismissed in December. They've unsuccessfully written two pieces of legislation and are working on a third that would require condoms.
