Los Angeles woman pleads not guilty in puppy killing

HAWTHORNE — A 21-year-old woman has pleaded not guilty to animal cruelty for allegedly killing a puppy by throwing it into traffic in a Los Angeles suburb — apparently because she was angry at her boyfriend.

Danielle Graham entered her plea Friday to one felony count. She was arrested Wednesday.

Capt. Mike Ishii says Hawthorne police officers saw a woman drag the dog out of a building by a chain and hurl it into the street. Her boyfriend's mother says the 3-month-old pit bull, named Gucci, landed on a moving car and then rolled under it.

Ishii says officers who tried to arrest Graham had to use pepper spray as they struggled with her and her boyfriend, 23-year-old Hakeem Funtua of Inglewood. Funtua was arrested on suspicion of assaulting a peace officer.
