Los Angeles pot clinic owner gets prison for profit scheme

The former owner of six medical marijuana dispensaries has been sentenced in Los Angeles to six years in federal prison for selling pot for profit.

Virgil Grant III was sentenced Monday in federal court after he pleaded guilty last June to conspiracy to possess and distribute marijuana.

U.S. District Judge Stephen V. Wilson says he didn't believe Grant's claim that his dispensaries were not for profit.

The 42-year-old was arrested in May 2008 on a host of federal charges, including operating dispensaries within 1,000 feet of schools and churches.
