UCLA police seek perpetrator of Wednesday attempted rape

UCLA police today sought the public's help to identify the man who sexually assaulted a female student outside the Covel Commons Building on the northwest end of campus.

The assault occurred around 3:25 a.m. Wednesday near the Delta Terrace Residential Suites and De Neve Drive, according to a UCLA Police Department Crime Alert.

The student reportedly stepped outside to use her cell phone and was walking back to her residence when a stranger grabbed her from behind, forced her to the ground and straddled her, police said.

The man then suddenly stopped and walked away, police said. The victim suffered minor scratches.

The suspect was described as Hispanic, 20 to 30 years old, unshaven, and wearing a baggy black hoodie and baggy black pants.

The incident did not appear to be related to sexual battery incidents reported in early March, police said.
