Felon allegedly used social networking to rob victims

TORRANCE — A convicted felon who allegedly met robbery victims through social networking sites has been charged with kidnapping, robbery, carjacking and other crimes.

Los Angeles County prosecutors say 24-year-old Angel Pena Ayala was arrested Friday and was scheduled to be arraigned Monday in Torrance Superior Court.

Hermosa Beach police say Ayala befriended two men online in March. He allegedly ordered one of the victims to drive to a nearby ATM and forced him to withdraw money. Police say he released the victim and drove off in the victim's car.

Police identified Ayala through fingerprints from the recovered vehicle.

He is being held on $4.4 million bail and has a prior carjacking conviction. He faces life in prison if convicted of all counts.
