Body identified of man shot, killed at hamburger stand south of downtown LA

A young man shot to death at a hamburger stand just south of downtown Los Angeles was identified today.

Demetrius D. Meriwether, 20, was shot in the head just before 1:30 p.m. Thursday in Jim's Burgers at 240 W. Adams Blvd., according to police and coroner's officials.

"By all indications, the victim in this shooting was specifically targeted," Los Angeles police Lt. Mike Menza said. "The shooter ran right out of the restaurant immediately. This whole thing went down in about less than a second."

The brazen shooting appeared to be gang-related, Menza said. A description of the gunman was unavailable early today.

Anyone with more information about the shooter was urged to call detectives at (213) 485-2582.
