LA mayor obtains restraining order over phone call

Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa has obtained a restraining order against a man accused of making a threatening call to his office.

Court filings in Los Angeles show a city attorney filed for a restraining order against Daniel John Molnar on Monday.

The filings state Molnar threatened Villaraigosa in a phone call, telling a staffer he would "take him out."

A sworn declaration by the mayor says he believes the threats are credible.

Jail records show Molnar was arrested on Thursday by Los Angeles police. The Los Angeles County district attorney's office declined to press charges, citing insufficient evidence.

A detective's declaration says Molnar told police he believed the mayor was speaking to him through the television and meant to harm him.
