LA seeks injunction against graffiti vandals

Prosecutors are seeking an injunction designed to thwart a graffiti crew known for massive scrawls of its Metro Transit Assassins initials "MTA" along a quarter-mile stretch of the concrete-lined Los Angeles River.

The Los Angeles city attorney's civil court injunction request filed Wednesday identifies 10 members of the MTA vandalism squad. Unlike other anti-gang injunctions, the city attorney's office says the one targeting MTA is the first of its kind specifically targeting a group of graffiti vandals.

The injunction would impose a broad list of prohibitions against the MTA crew.

The civil suit scheduled for Aug. 31 seeks $250,000 in civil penalties and $3.7 million in damages for 500 incidents of MTA graffiti vandalism.

MTA is better known as the abbreviation of Los Angeles County's Metropolitan Transportation Authority.
