Court hearing for Los Angeles mom accused in daughter's death

A court hearing is scheduled Tuesday for a Los Angeles mother who police say stabbed her 10-year-old daughter to death and then tried to commit suicide.

Detectives say 49-year-old Bong Sook Chavez remains hospitalized, but was booked on suspicion of murder Friday after Chavez and her daughter were found suffering from stab wounds at their home at the Fort MacArthur military housing facility in San Pedro.

Online booking records show Chavez is at County-USC Medical Center and has a court hearing scheduled for Tuesday morning in Long Beach.

Police say her husband, a retired U.S. Navy reservist, woke up, ran to his daughter's bedroom and found his wife stabbing herself and his daughter wounded. The girl died at the hospital.
