Abducted Norwalk girl found in Arizona never schooled

Phoenix police say a girl abducted by three aunts from her foster parents in Norwalk nearly seven years ago has never been in school and can't read.

Phoenix police spokesman Sgt. Trent Crump said Thursday that the 7-year-old was apparently living with acquaintances of the aunts in Phoenix when she was found. The girl spoke English and some Romanian.

Los Angeles sheriff's Capt. Patrick Maxwell confirmed the girl's identity as Amber Nicklas, who was abducted when she was 1. Authorities flew her back to Norwalk after she was found Wednesday afternoon. She was placed in the custody of the Los Angeles County Department of Children and Family Services. It was not clear if her foster parents have been notified.

Crump says two women and a man were questioned but have been released pending possible charges by California authorities.
