The classical theater company A Noise Within broke ground today to mark its imminent move from Glendale to Pasadena.

The company’s education director Samantha Starr said the new location — at the intersection of Foothill Boulevard and Sierra Madre Villa — will help to expand arts education programs for local schools.

"We see about 10,000 students every year, and right now our space only has 148 seats, so that’s pretty remarkable. In our new building we’re hoping to double that, because we’ll have more than the number of seats we have currently. But our programs also encompass actually going out into the schools and doing workshops with students."

Starr said A Noise Within offers classes, camps, and discount performances to students 6th grade and up.

The 19-year-old company performs classic plays in repertory with a resident cast. It’s raised $10 million for the building it hopes to occupy in about 15 months.
