LAPD probing weekend party melee

Los Angeles police say a weekend party that ended with a rock- and bottle-throwing melee has led to nine arrests - and also complaints that officers used excessive force.

A police statement says officers answering complaints about a noisy birthday party went to a Pacoima home on Sunday and found 60 to 70 people causing a disturbance.

Police say some partyers began throwing rocks, bottles and cans. One officer was treated for a concussion. Nine people were arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon and other crimes.

A video showing police breaking up the party has shown up online.

The LAPD says some partygoers later claimed officers used excessive force and an investigation is underway that will include reviewing the video.
