Former President Bill Clinton plans a visit to Orange County later this month. He is scheduled to speak at a campaign rally for Democratic Congresswoman Loretta Sanchez.

Sanchez is locked in a tight race with Van Tran. She is only a few percentage points ahead of the Republican Assemblyman in the race to keep her congressional seat.

So the Sanchez campaign says former President Bill Clinton plans to help out the incumbent congresswoman by speaking at a free re-election rally at the Old Orange County Courthouse in Santa Ana on October 15 at 3 p.m.

The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee is worried enough about the race that it’s reportedly spent $13,000 to help raise Sanchez’ profile.

The Orange County Register says that’s the most the party has spent on a local congressional election in decade.

In the meantime, the Republican Party named Van Tran a “Young Gun” candidate. That raises his profile – and his fundraising clout – in that party.
