The holiday celebration continues for one member of Congress. A lawmaker from Simi Valley is turning a swearing in ceremony into a holiday treat.

Congressman Elton Gallegly spent the weeks before Christmas collecting bicycles – 500 of them. They’re for the children of Navy families living in Ventura County – kids whose parents are on their way to Iraq and Afghanistan.

But the Republican from Simi Valley says he’ll continue to celebrate the holidays when he returns to Washington with two of his 10 grandchildren in tow. "This year I will be very happy to bring my 4-year-old and 2-year-old that live in Zurich, Switzerland back to Washington for the swearing-in ceremony," he says. His daughter-in-law has never been in Washington. "So we’re excited about that!"

Gallegly has reason to celebrate his return to Washington: the Republicans take control of the House of Representatives on Jan. 5.
