Advocates commemorate 1 year anniversary of health care reform

Political leaders and healthcare activists are marking the anniversary of President Barack Obama’s healthcare reform law Wednesday afternoon. Federal and state officials will gather at St. John’s Well Child and Family Center in Los Angeles to discuss the benefits of Obama’s Affordable Care Act. Congress signed it into law a year ago today. Leaders will talk about how that legislation has affected California.

In the meantime, there's a DJ, lots of balloon and a whole lot of information available for people who showed up at the center to find out how they can receive resources on free to low-cost health coverage and services.

One young woman who’s expecting a baby boy said a health care worker offered to provide her with some low cost services through Medi-Cal that include massages from now until she delivers. Just an example of the kind of support people are receiving who come in today.

“Building Healthy Communities” which is a 10-year, $1 billion plan part of The California Endowment, is sponsoring today’s health enrollment fair.
