Brush fire erupts in Acton area of north Los Angeles County

Firefighters aided by water-dropping helicopters are battling a 35-acre brush fire that's burned a shed and is threatening homes in the Acton area of Los Angeles County.

The fire erupted at 11 a.m. Thursday in a semi-rural area of scattered ranches off State Route 14 north of Los Angeles.

Los Angeles County fire Inspector Matt Levesque says an outbuilding and a truck burned. He says fire engines are protecting homes and no evacuations have been called.

About 200 firefighters and four helicopters are fighting flames flaring in heavy vegetation but Levesque says residents had done a good job of clearing brush away from their homes. Temperatures are in the 90s but winds are light.
