Computer access is central to a new program the L.A. Department of Recreation and Parks launched Monday near downtown. With a federal grant, the city is operating two new computer centers at their Expo Center.

Linh Vo of the Department of Recreation and Parks says the program offers free high-speed Internet access to people in the surrounding neighborhoods. She hopes the new computer labs will offer them an opportunity to catch up.

“For example," Vo says, "for the kids to come in, to do their homework, to create their resume, to look for jobs, online services, research, and connect with other people.”

Vo expects up to 10,000 people to take free computer training classes the program will offer this year.

The Expo Center is located at 3980 South Bill Robertson Lane in South Los Angeles.
