The race to replace former Los Angeles City Councilwoman Janice Hahn is getting crowded.

Nearly two dozen people have filed paperwork with the Ethics Commission to raise money for the race. The deadline to file as a candidate falls Saturday.

Candidates include two former L.A. city councilmen. Rudy Svornich represented the district in the late 1990s.

Robert Farrell sat on the Council for nearly two decades in the 1970s and '80ss. He’s 74 years old now.

But analysts say Tim McOsker and Warren Furutani are the early frontrunners. McOsker is head of the labor union that represents L.A. city firefighters; he enjoys the backing of many other city unions. Furutani’s a state assemblyman supported by Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa.

The 15th City Council District stretches from Watts to San Pedro.

Hahn resigned her seat when voters elected her to Congress. The election to replace her is Nov. 8.
