Investigators say arson caused Pasadena house fire

Investigators believe that arson was the cause of a fire that occurred Saturday in a Pasadena house. The house was nearly destroyed and the blaze spread to vegetation along the nearby Foothill (210) Freeway.

Lisa Derderian of the Pasadena Fire Department says Saturday's blaze caused some $800,000 worth of damage to the large two-story home.

Three adults in the house escaped without injury and are being sheltered Sunday by the Red Cross.

Derderian says investigators are looking into whether a fire along the 210 Freeway was started by embers from the burning house, or if it was sparked separately.

Crews had the flames knocked down 20 minutes after their arrival.

A firefighter was treated at a hospital after injuring his wrist in a fall while fighting the blaze.
