Moreno Valley Walmart reopening after ending search for man with a gun

A Walmart store  in Moreno Valley was evacuated at 6 a.m. Monday morning as a precaution after a man entered the store with a gun.

Deputy Joshua Morales of the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department said the man came in asking for the store manager, but it’s unclear if he ever spoke with them.

“Eyewitnesses said that he was wearing camouflage-style clothing and possibly armed with an M-16 type assault rifle or possibly a shotgun,” Morales said.

Police said the man did not fire any shots or take any merchandise before he fled out the back of the Walmart.  Deputies consider him a “suspicious person” and set up a perimeter as they searched several hours for him.

The store was expected to reopen about Noon. The man was not found.
