2 Ventura police hit with pickup, man fatally shot

Authorities say Ventura police shot and killed a man after he hit two officers with his truck outside a motel.

Assistant Chief David Wilson says the officers are in serious condition at a trauma center but are expected to survive.

Wilson says the two female officers came to the Motel 6 at Harbor Boulevard and Monmouth Way, near the beach, at 7 pm. Officers had received reports that a guest had been disturbing others all day and refused to leave.

The officers found the man, but he ran and got into a pickup truck.

“The officers were on foot and the suspect began to move the vehicle, drive it," said Wilson. "And at some point as he’s maneuvering it, he runs over one of our officers and then strikes the other officer.

Wilson says one or both officers then shot the man, and he died sitting in the truck.

One of the officers been released and the other is in serious condition, but she’s expected to survive. Police have not yet released the identity of the officers or the assailant.
