The Santa Clarita Sheriff's Station planned to post extra deputies at West Ranch High School Monday in response to a rumor fueled by social media that a student planned to bring a gun to campus, a lieutenant said.

"Somebody might have heard someone say they were going to bring a gun to school," said Lt. Tom Bryski of the sheriff's Santa Clarita Station. "Someone put it on Twitter and it went viral," he said.

"We talked to everyone, and when push came to shove, no one said anything," Bryski said.

One deputy usually patrols a couple of schools each day, he said. He would not say how many deputies would be stationed at the high school but said there would be beefed-up contingent.
