Santa Ana police looking for arsonist responsible for 11 dumpster fires in past 10 days

Santa Ana police are on the lookout for a serial arsonist that has struck 11 times in the same area in slightly over a week.

Santa Ana Sgt. Bill Nimmo told KPCC the fires have all been set on a single 3-block strip on North Sullivan Street between 1 and 4:30 a.m. The first fire was set August 3rd. Since then, the department has responded to 10 other fires, all set in dumpsters in the heavily commercial area.

The last was set early Monday morning.

"In last night's fire, they pulled the dumpster away from the building," suggesting that whoever's responsible may not be attempting to burn the buildings down, Nimmo said.

Nimmo said the department currently has no leads, but said residents should be on the look-out for anyone suspicious in the area during the early morning hours.

Anyone with information is asked to call 714-245-8345.
