The body of missing Arcadia firefighter Mike Herdman, 36, has been found in the Los Padres National Forest, NBC L.A. reports.

Herdman went missing while on a camping trip with a friend June 13 when he rushed into the woods after his dog Duke without shoes or equipment, wearing only a T-shirt and shorts. The campers were in a rugged Ventura County wilderness area north of Fillmore.

His hiking partner made his way back to a trailhead on June 15 and alerted authorities, according to City News Service, beginning a massive search effort that included teams from the Ventura County Sheriff's Department, and sheriff's teams from Los Angeles, Orange, Kern and San Luis Obispo counties.

A Homeland Security Rapid Response Team also took part in the search, along with volunteers from the Los Angeles Animal Services Department, which assisted after crews twice spotted Duke but were unable to catch him, according to CNS.

The dog was previously found on Sunday, and the search was dramatically scaled back after previously including over 100 personnel spanning 50 square miles and the use of drones to try tracking Herdman down.
