A 29-year-old man has been charged with murder in the stabbing of his cousin and the cousin's wife.

Los Angeles County prosecutors said in a statement that Jacob Mallory Bersson has been charged with killing Lawrence Bressler and his wife Denise Bressler at their Pasadena apartment, where he was also living. Bressler was the director of operations at Chefs Center in Pasadena.

Bersson is scheduled to appear in court Thursday. He's being held without bail and prosecutors have not decided whether to pursue the death penalty.

Prosecutors allege that on Monday morning Bersson forced his way into the couple's bedroom and stabbed both to death. Both later died at a hospital.

Chefs Center in Pasadena said in a statement that Bressler was an "esteemed and well-regarded member of our team and the community."
