Big rig crash injures 7, jams traffic in East LA

At least seven people were injured — one critically — when a big rig carrying molasses crashed Wednesday morning in an accident involving at least three other vehicles at the East L.A. interchange, according to media reports.

From NBC4:

The crash occurred on the southbound 5 Freeway transition to the westbound 10 Freeway. Aerial video showed the big rig, a pickup on its side and at least two other vehicles that were involved in the crash.

The L.A. Times reports the transition was expected to be closed until at least 7:30 a.m. while officers investigated and that crews would have to "clear the roadway of an unknown amount of syrup that spilled out of the truck."

Traffic was backed up beyond the 110 Freeway, the Times reports.
