A 65-year-old man who was taking his 4-year-old son trick-or-treating in an Irvine residential neighborhood was killed when hit by a car on Halloween. The boy was also injured.
John Alcorn and his son were hit shortly after 7 p.m., according to Irvine Police spokesperson Farrah Emami. They both suffered significant injuries and were transported to a local trauma center, where John Alcorn succumbed to his injuries and died at about 8:40 p.m.
The boy remains in critical but stable condition, according to Emami.
"This is a really, very tragic incident for this family. They're going through a very difficult time this morning," Emami said. "Our hearts go out to these victims."
They were hit by a female driver who remained at the scene and has been cooperating with investigators, Emami said.
Officials would not release additional details at this time.
Three teenage girls were also killed by a car on Halloween night in Santa Ana. That incident was a hit-and-run, with police still searching for the suspects.
