A Los Angeles woman and her boyfriend have been charged with keeping more than 90 dogs in filthy conditions in the San Fernando Valley.

The city attorney's office announced Friday that Christianna Coppola and George Katcher are charged with six misdemeanor counts of animal cruelty and neglect. They could face up to six months in jail if convicted.

No public phone listing could be found for the couple Friday.

Prosecutors say the couple took dogs out of animal shelters and solicited donations for their care.

Following complaints from neighbors, animal services workers went to their Arleta home in July.

Authorities say they found 93 dogs stacked in cages filthy with animal waste. Some were emaciated and many had contagious or life-threatening illnesses such as heartworm and mange.
