A Los Angeles man who beat his mother to death with a hammer and partially dismembered her has been sentenced to prison.

U-T San Diego says 33-year-old Bryan Chang was sentenced Tuesday to 25 years to life.

Chang, who's been diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia, pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity. But a jury ruled he was legally sane at the time of the murder, meaning he was able to tell right from wrong.

Chang killed 60-year-old Sherry Chu Chang in January of 2010 at her Solana Beach home in San Diego County.

Authorities found her body in the bathroom. Her right arm had been severed and placed in the refrigerator and a piece of bone, probably from her skull, was found in a bedroom nightstand.
