Hours-long standoff ends in Pasadena; was related to earlier attempted robbery

Pasadena Police surrounded an apartment complex in Pasadena Monday morning after an armed suspect refused to exit, Pasadena police said in a statement.

Pasadena Police Lt. Tracey Ibarra told The Los Angeles Times that a man whose name has not been released had barricaded himself inside the complex since 5 a.m., prompting police to evacuate the building at 70 N. Harkness Avenue. A SWAT team was called on scene. 

Police say the incident was related to a attempted robbery that took place at around 1:30 a.m. that morning, in which a man that tried to rob a woman.  

NBC Los Angeles reported that the standoff lasted around 7 hours and was brought to a close after the suspect spoke to his mother:

The man surrendered after authorities contacted his mother, who arrived at the scene and spoke with her son by phone, according to City News Service.

No one was injured in the standoff, police said.
