This weekend is the ASICS L.A. Marathon, a 26-mile route from Dodger Stadium to Santa Monica. Impressive, right? The weather is expected to break a 64-year heat record with a high of 91 degrees. That's why the event's organizers have moved up the start time of the race half an hour to 6:55 a.m. (Stay hydrated, Angelenos!)
Tickets to participate in the race itself are sold out, but the cool thing about this route is the huge spotlights along the way. They will be visible from vantage points around the city. Make Friday night a movie night with a free screening of "Some Like It Hot" at the historic Sunnyside Cemetery in Long Beach. Before their upcoming opera "Marilyn Forever," Long Beach Opera is partnering with Sunnyside Cemetery to show Marilyn Monroe in one of her most memorable acting roles. The satirical black and white comedy is a classic piece of cinema you can't miss. Pro tip: Don't forget to pack a picnic and a chair or cozy blanket.

The Craft & Folk Art Museum offers pay-what-you-can admission every Sunday. Plus, on the third Sunday of every month, it hosts a family-friendly workshop. This weekend, artist Jonas Becker will discuss his multimedia installation The Pile, which consists of a 20-foot-tall pile of handcrafted fabric talismans that represent thousands of wishes and desires. Following the talk, the artist will lead a workshop where you can create your own hand-sewn desire.

Caltech students are hosting "Food for Thought," a Pi Day-inspired baking event.
