Los Angeles police say their officers shot and killed a man who came at them with a large hunting knife.

LAPD Officer Mike Lopez says the officers were called to the Lincoln Heights area northeast of downtown LA late Tuesday afternoon after a woman reported that a man had stabbed himself.

Police say they came across the man and told him to drop the knife but he refused and kept advancing on them, and officers opened fire.

The man was taken to a hospital and pronounced dead. No officers were injured.

No names were released, and police wouldn't immediately say how many officers fired their guns or how many shots were fired.
