Los Angeles Police Department officers shot and killed a woman in South Los Angeles after a robbery was reported in the Crenshaw area, officer Nuria Vanegas tells KPCC.

Police responded to the robbery that occurred at a pharmacy on Santa Rosalia Drive at around 1:40 p.m., Vanegas said. At around 2 p.m., officers on scene saw a woman matching a description of the suspect in an alley, Vanegas said.

After trying to detain the woman, the officers shot her, Vanegas said. No information on the woman's actions was available. The officers were not wearing body cameras.

"We don't know the actions of the female, however we do know that a Taser was deployed and a large knife was found at the scene," Vanegas said.

The woman died on scene, Vanegas said. Information on her identity has not been released. Venegas said the officers who were involved in the shooting will be interviewed by detectives during the investigation of the shooting.
