Police fatally shot a man in Van Nuys after he struck an officer over the head with a "hard object," according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

NBC4 reports that according to police, the incident started when officers responded to a neighbor dispute in the 14600 block of Valerio Street late Thursday night. The man allegedly hit an officer in the head and shoulders. The LAPD said an officer then shot the suspect.

The two officers on scene sustained moderate injuries, according to NBC4.

Sgt. Barry Montgomery said the suspect had refused to leave the house, reported KTLA5.

The LAPD, district attorney’s office and independent inspector general are investigating the incident, according to the station.
