Two men were injured Sunday when their car collided with a Metro Gold Line train near the Fillmore Station in Pasadena.

The collision occurred at about 11:30 a.m. on the southbound track on California Boulevard between Raymond Avenue and South Arroyo Parkway.

A passenger on the train, Stephanie Chacon, 24, was on her way home to Highland Park when the collision occurred.

"All I know is there was a very major boom," she said. "The gates were apparently down and somehow the car made it through there."

Pasadena Fire Department spokeswoman Lisa Derderian said the car, a gray Toyota Corolla, was crossing the tracks westbound on California Boulevard when it was struck by the southbound train. The car was spun around and came to rest against a crossing-gate pole.

The two men in the car were taken to the hospital.

None of the 24 passengers on the train were injured, Derderian said. The passengers were transferred to another southbound train on an adjacent track at 12:28 p.m.

The crash temporarily shut down California Avenue at the accident site. The street was reopened at about 2:25 p.m.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.
