Fontana police shoot, kill suspect while responding to disturbance call

A Fontana police officer shot and killed a man in Fontana early Friday morning while responding to a report of a suspect allegedly banging on a neighbor's door and causing a disturbance.

In a statement, the Fontana Police Department said that it received the report of a disturbance in the Tangelo Avenue and San Jacinto Circle area around 12:30 a.m. The statement said that when police arrived at the scene, the officers contacted the man in the front yard of the location and shot him when he didn’t comply with commands from officers.

The suspect was found to have a firearm, according to the statement. He was pronounced dead at a hospital at 1:31 a.m. 

Fontana Police said that the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department is investigating the incident and that the officer involved, who wasn’t hurt, was put on administrative leave, per department policy.
