Metro Blue Line commuters will be shuttled via buses in the Compton and Willowbrook areas as crews continue to repair the tracks and rail systems following Monday's train-car collision.

Los Angeles County officials said preliminary reports suggested the motorist drove around the crossing gates into the path of the oncoming train Monday morning.

The motorist was taken to a hospital in stable condition.

Metro initially said the repairs would take just a few hours but later Monday announced the tracks would be shut down at least through Tuesday's morning commute.

Damage occurred to the train, a track switch box and the support system for the overhead wires that deliver electricity to trains.
