Overcast skies gave way to sunshine on Sunday as Angelenos turned out for the CicLAvia cycling and street festival event in the San Fernando Valley.
The event was held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on a 4-mile stretch of Van Nuys Boulevard that was closed to motor-vehicle traffic between San Fernando Road in Pacoima and Roscoe Boulevard in Panorama City.
Actor Danny Trejo joined Mayor Eric Garcetti and other city leaders to kick off the event at 8:30 a.m.
Sunday's CicLAvia was the 16th event organized since the popular "open-street" festival began in 2010, and the second to take place in the San Fernando Valley.
Previous events have traversed other communities, including Culver City, Venice, Mar Vista, Wilshire Boulevard, Koreatown, MacArthur Park, South Los Angeles, Echo Park, Chinatown, Little Tokyo, Boyle Heights, Downtown L.A., East L.A. and Pasadena.
