Police officers shot and killed a 36-year-old suspect in the city of Bell on Thursday morning.

The shooting occurred at 8:20 a.m. in the 7100 block of Atlantic Avenue. Bell Police officers and a deputy were dispatched to the location, responding to 911 calls reporting a domestic dispute at a local convenience store, according to a Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department advisory. The convenience store was a 7-Eleven, KPCC media partner NBC L.A. reports.

A man with a knife refused to comply with the officers' verbal commands, according to the advisory. He then reportedly advanced toward officers with the knife and was shot. He was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

According to a preliminary investigation by Sheriff's Department detectives, a man assaulted a woman at a local eatery in the 4500 block of Florence Avenue. He walked next door to the convenience store. The woman followed the suspect to the store, where the dispute continued, leading to the 911 calls. The woman also had a child with her.

No officers were injured. The suspect's identity was being withheld pending notification of his next of kin, according to the advisory. The relationship between the suspect and the woman was also unknown. The investigation is ongoing.
