Police pursuit of a stolen vehicle ended when officers shot and killed the passenger and arrested the driver in Boyle Heights on Thursday evening, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

The roughly 30-minute car chase began around 7:09 p.m. when officers spotted a reportedly stolen vehicle, and ended around 7:45 p.m. at the 1200 block of Atwood Place, LAPD Officer Tony Im told NBC Los Angeles

Officers shot and wounded the passenger after he got out of the car and started running. He later died at the hospital.

The man had been confronted by bystanders after running out of the car, an LAPD officer told KPCC, and people told officers the suspects had a gun. Officers reportedly saw that the man had a gun and a gun was recovered at the scene.

The woman driver of the car was arrested and unharmed.

Thursday's shooting is the 11th fatal shooting by on-duty LAPD officers in 2016, the L.A. Times reported.

NBC L.A. said that the shooting is under investigation by LAPD's Use of Force Division, the Justice System Integrity Division of the L.A. County District Attorney's Office and the LAPD's Inspector General's Office.
