A suspect was shot in Lawndale on Tuesday after driving head-on into a police car. At approximately 9:40 a.m., Redondo Beach SWAT officers located the suspect, who was wanted in connection with a previous assault with a deadly weapon on a police officer and had a "no bail" warrant, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.

The suspect was driving a black SUV in the parking lot of a hotel. The officers tried to conduct a traffic stop, but the suspect "diverted" one police car and appeared to intentionally collide head-on with the other, according to the Sheriff's Department.

Multiple officers fired at the suspect, who was struck at least once in the upper torso. The suspect was transported to a local hospital and has been listed in "serious" condition.

A Redondo Beach police officer received non-life-threatening injuries in the encounter, according to the Sheriff's Department. He was transported to a local hospital and was expected to be released later Tuesday.
