The holidays are coming and it's time to save up for all that post-Thanksgiving holiday shopping. But you don't need to go full hermit. From a free mariachi festival to a mobile interactive art photography exhibit, here are some wallet-friendly ways to spend the weekend.

Cruffins and Ice Cream

What's a cruffin, you ask? Only one of the most delicious croissant-muffin hybrid pastries known to man. Add Jeni's Splendid ice cream to the mix and you'll be in dessert heaven. Head over to Mr. Holmes Bakehouse, pick up one of their cruffins (or donuts) and top it with a scoop of ice cream from the truck parked out front. Think of it as training for all the upcoming pumpkin pie consumption.

WHEN: Saturday, Nov. 19, 9 a.m. - 4 p.m.
WHERE: Mr. Holmes Bakehouse, Highland Park | MAP
COST: Prices vary

This is Hunger

This unorthodox traveling exhibition aims to drive home a sad message. But the interactive experience and powerful photos should make for a worthwhile experience. Tucked inside a 53-foot-long expandable tractor-trailer unit, "This is Hunger" will hit 15 cities in 10 months, showing the country what it's like to be food insecure on a daily basis.

WHEN: Now through Dec. 18
WHERE: Various locations, this weekend: Temple Israel of Hollywood | MAP
COST: Free

This one's for the person with the poster-covered walls and eternally expanding collection of comic book-inspired memorabilia. Head over to peruse the latest goodies from more than 350 vendors: unique prints, collector's items and more. Pro-tip: This might also be your one-stop shop for Christmas presents. It's never too early to get that out of the way.

Turkey Trot

Get some exercise in before you settle down to a tryptophan coma. Participants can choose between running or walking a 5K or a 10K. Cross the finish line with the whole family and receive a medal, commemorative t-shirt and all the water you can gulp down. All proceeds will benefit youth programs in San Gabriel. If this particular Turkey Trot doesn't float your boat, plenty more will be happening on Thanksgiving Day.
