Authorities say the wreckage of a helicopter with two bodies inside has been located in the waters of Los Angeles Harbor a day after it vanished after taking off from a nearby airport.
Port of Los Angeles spokesman Phillip Sanfield says searchers using sonar located the Robinson R22 on Thursday. He says crews are trying to extricate the two victims from the fuselage. He could not immediately confirm their identities.
The crash was reported Wednesday evening by passengers aboard an outbound cruise ship and fishermen along a breakwater.
Authorities learned that a Robinson R22 with two people on board took off from the airport in nearby Torrance. It was on a photography flight in the general area.
