Pasadena Cheeseburger Week

Have your first cheeseburger of the year — if you haven't already — at this weeklong homage to the person who decided to put a slab of cheese on an already mouthwatering dish. Choose from several local joints in Pasadena, including Slater's 50/50, Kings Row Gastropub and plenty more. Then, make sure to vote your favorite!

Closing attractions and exhibitions 

As we welcome the new year, many beloved attractions are bidding farewell. This weekend will be your last to check out the interactive light exhibit at Descanso Gardens, the L.A. Zoo lights and the Queen Mary's waterfront winter wonderland. Perhaps the saddest goodbye will be to LACMA's adored yellow "spaghetti" installation that will be taken down in early February.

Second City Hollywood's Open House 

If one of your resolutions was to finally make it as a comedic improv celebrity, this might be your first stepping stone. Attend as many free workshops and classes as you can cram into one day, from industry veterans like Tim Paul and Holly Wortell. If your comedic aspirations aren't that great and you just want a good laugh, a full roster of free shows is also on the schedule for the day.

Oshogatsu Family Festival 

Ring in the Year of the Rooster at this all-day festival jam packed with everything from origami workshops, a live chicken petting zoo and a (yum!) mochi-making demonstration. Adults can also enjoy any of the various museum exhibits on display, including "Uprooted: Japanese American Farm Labor Camps During World War II."

No Pants Metro Ride

This challenge is for a select group of brave Angelenos. Don your best (and cleanest) underpants and explore the city in a whole different light. You should probably wear all other types of clothing, but pants are prohibited for this mission. Good luck!

Here you'll find everything your furry companion needs and wants, from snazzy new toys, snacks and fellow pups! Pet owners: make sure to take advantage of the free nail trimmings, obedience presentations and discounted vaccinations. If you didn't get a fur baby under the Christmas tree, plenty of rescue groups will be there to help you adopt.
